Your adventure begins as you paddle by canoe deep into Barton Creek, surrounded by the lush jungle of the Cayo District. As the sunlight disappears behind you, the cave becomes completely dark, with your headlamp providing the only light as you glide quietly along the underground river.

Look up and you’ll see spectacular stalactites and stalagmites formed over thousands of years, while your guide brings the cave’s ancient Maya history to life. The Maya believed caves were sacred places and used Barton Creek for ceremonies and offerings. You may even spot ancient pottery fragments and other evidence of the cave’s ceremonial past.
